The Voice of the Minority Community

Salma is a woman from Muslim community at Hastsal, for whom going out of her house freely was a big restriction. She was inspired by INDCARE's Mahila Chetna and its activities. She would invariably see women being called for meetings and being given inputs about how to be economically independent. But thinking of herself in those terms was next to impossible. But one day, she gathered courage and she attended a meeting of the Mahila Chetna in her area. Gradually she took her husband into confidence and applied for loan of Rs. 10,000/-. With this amount, she started with a small cycle shop of her own. Not only does she employ a boy for repairing the damaged cycles but also sells cycle parts in her shop. This small business has helped them to improve their economic status and enhanced sustainable livelihood. Both husband and wife have now become one of the strongest supporters of INDCARE's Mahila Chetna programme.
